About UsBrian Gavin Brian's lifelong curiosity and deep questioning led him to pursue a path of personal development beginning in the early 1990s. His Buddhist practice began in Zen and expanded to include the Theravadan tradition. In addition to an active and ongoing daily practice, Brian has participated in intensive silent concentration meditation retreats of up to fourteen days in length. He has practiced Theravada jhana (Samatha) meditation with Tina Rasmussen and Stephen Snyder, in the lineage of Ven. Pa Auk Sayadaw of Burma, including retreats and a year‐long Awakening Dharma mentoring group.
Brian is currently in Teacher
Training with Stephen and Tina, and is authorized (under their guidance) to
offer dharma talks and lead meditation groups, specifically regarding the
practice territory from "first sit" to first jhana (see www.jhanasadvice.com). He will be assisting them with leading
daylongs and 3‐day retreats in the near future.
As a professional geologist for thirty years, Brian has worked in the US, South America, Africa and Eastern Europe and also founded and run successful public companies. He is an avid cycling enthusiast and father to two adult children, and lives in eastern Washington state.
